Our New Topic
Our new topic this term is weather. Our teacher thought
about an activity called Keeper of the Word. If you don’t know what that means
[keeper of the word] I’m going to tell you. Some examples are my friend Brandon
he has the word tornado, Poppy has snow, Trinity has temperature and I have
seasons. We look up what they mean and everything about the word, then we make
a word card for our word. After you have finished making the card, the teacher
will laminate it for your desk so anyone can look come to you to look at that
word.

Harold - By Gussie
On Monday the 14th May Harold came. Karearea went in his truck for the first time after lunch, we learnt about decision making. Seeing Harold was fun! One of the activities we had to do was decide what place was better to go to on a pretend holiday out of the North Island, Fiji or New York,(Miss Gorman apparently won lotto)Genevieve told us all these choices. We got to go to Fiji for five days also we got to go up to the North island for two weeks we got to go to New York for a month and we got all these choices of how much money we would spend in each place. The most money we got was in the North Island we got $1000 dollars a day for doing nothing from Miss Gorman ,we got $5000 dollars from Miss Gorman on the plane. In the end we spent all the money in New York! Making the decision was hard. Then when we finished Harold told us a joke the joke was when do trees smell? When their leaves blow off. The next day we went and we learnt about the body we learnt how the body works and what was good for your body and what was bad for your body Drugs are bad for your body! By Gussie

Surfing
In week 4 many schools gathered to go surfing at Waikuku Beach. We went there to go surfing and boggie boarding. It was a roasting hot day although the waves were frezzing cold. It was very hard surfing becasue of the crashing waves splashing down on us.

Beach Education
A while ago we went on a whole school trip to Waikuku Beach! When we came back we wrote recounts. We've been a bit slow putting them up here but here is one now.
On Thursday the 9th of February 2012 Waikari School went to Waikuku Beach in cars.
When we got there we rushed inside to put our bags away in little cupboards finally we went up the steps to meet the three lifeguards their names where Chris, Dan and Nic. We talked a little bit about sun-safe. After a while we had morning tea. Next we talked a lot more about surf safety. We got split into groups like rm 1 and rm 2 and 3 when we played games and the role of a lifeguard. Afterwards it was lunch time. We came back and did some awesome sand sculptures and castle making competition. Fifteen minutes later we got called in to get changed into our togs and get a boogie board to go into the water. We waited to go on the big huge waves. I got soaking wet when it was time to go home.

What a start!
WOW!
What a whirlwind start to the year.
We have surfed the waves at Waikuku, worked out Kung Fu Punctuation, figured out some trickey basic facts tasks and swam in our not so warm pool everyday!!! This week and next week we are having swimming lesson at Hurunui pool. All this on top of all our other school work. We have almost mastered the art of blog writing so soon we will publish some of our blogs about Dr Seuss on here.
Thanks for checking in on us!
Oh and our quote this term is "A persons a person no matter how small." - Dr Seuss. It reminds us to respect EVERYBODY!
